What to do with R.s.v.p. Slackers

Brides ask me frequently for the best way to handle invited guests who do not respond by the deadline date on their R.s.v.p.  First, I say "Shame on people who don't have the courtesy to respond to your invitation."  Second, I tell the bride that she will have to make phone calls and gently request for those slackers to offer their verbal response.
When I prepare a Response Card for a bride I count backwards approximately two weeks from her wedding date, and use that date as her response date.  That gives her another week to make those phone calls to the people who have not responded, and the week before her wedding to prepare her final guest count for her caterer.  That's really the entire point of a Response Card.  So you and your family and any other hosts of your event are able to be well prepared to entertain all of your guests.
One way to make certain invited guests respond -  add a stamp to the return envelope you provide along with the Response Card.
